This page is not fully finished but the photos have gone in first. The text and captions will follow as quickly as possible.
A map of the system. The main line starts at Wernigerode and runs as far as Drei Annen Hohne where it splits into the 100% steam worked line to Brocken and the main line to Nordhausen. The other line from Nordhausen to Gernrode has branches to Alexisbad and Hasselfelde.
All trains Wernigerode to Brocken are steam and there is one through working in steam daily to Nordhausen. There is occasional steam on the Gernrode line and its branches generally one train per day. The remainder of the service is provded by railcars. It is without doubt the finest operating mainline steam railway in Europe and there is nothing to beat the sound of the hard working Pacific climbing up the mountain to Brocken.

The famous daily dual departure from Drei Annen Hohne. One for Nordhausen and the other for Brocken.
At Brocken summit in winter. It runs all year and the views in winter are only magnificent.

Leaving Wernigerode it runs along the road.
In summer trains on the Brocken line are generally seven or eight carriages and full at that.
Coach connections are a relic of a bygone era.
Interiors are simple and basic.
Drei Annen Hohne is the main Junction with a guesthouse
And of course the webmaster has to get his face in somewhere!
While two downs are in the station the up arrives giving three steam trains at the junction at the same time which is some sight.
The downs are now ready for a simultaneous departure

Double departures are also possible here for the main line and the Gernrode branch to the right.
Stations are untouched to say the least
This railcar could do with a lick of paint
Railcar interiors are good though.

She then runs around.
Back at Isfelder diesel meets steam.

The branches are simple

Hasselfelde is a bit worn but that is the charm.
So is the webmaster at Hasselfelde

The diesel awaits the main line steam train!
Gernrode (DB) is a simple rural station
